Drawers

You Need To Know:

If you are already familiar with drawers, you can probably skip this entire page.

If you are not, read on.

Drawers are a novel feature of the OSX interface. A drawer is a special kind of window that is attached to a parent window. When the drawer is activated, it opens by appearing to slide out from behind the parent window. You can generally close a drawer by selecting whatever button or menu item opened the drawer, or you can drag the drawer closed by its outer border.

Drawers have some funny rules -- a drawer is not supposed to be larger than its parent window. As a result, if you want a drawer to be wider than its current limit, you have to make the window larger first.

If you think that this is as silly as I do, voice your opinions to Apple here

All of Jotz's drawers also have a drawer-close tab on the border of the drawer.

Jotz has three classes of drawers:

• Pad-related drawers
Drawer deals with pad data in some manner.

Examples: Shuffle Drawer, Text Drawer.

• Application-wide drawers

Drawer deals with a single, application-wide data source, regardless of what pad it is opened in.

Examples: To Do Drawer, Reference Drawer

• Utility Drawers

Drawer is a tool for manipulating data, and each instance deals with a data source unique to it, but unrelated to the parent Pad.

Here is an example drawer:

The tab on the right-hand edge of the drawer is the drawer-close tab.
